What Makes Oil, Gas & Energy Different
Energy sector disposal splits into two very different problems that are usually handed to the same buyer. The office estate — head office laptops, site accommodation PCs, the usual corporate refresh — behaves like any other corporate disposal. The operational technology estate does not. Industrial PCs, HMI panels, SCADA workstations, RTUs, historians and engineering laptops hold process logic, network topology, tag databases, alarm configuration and vendor credentials, and that material is worth more to the wrong recipient than the hardware will ever be worth as scrap.
A decommissioned SCADA workstation sold intact into a second-hand market is a genuine security exposure, not a theoretical one. The engineering laptop is frequently worse, because it holds project files for multiple sites and a saved VPN configuration. These need physical destruction of the storage rather than a wipe and a resale, and the decision needs to be made deliberately at scoping rather than by default at the yard.
Then there is site access, which in this sector governs everything. Permit to work, safety induction, PPE standards, insurance evidence, gas testing where relevant, escorted access and shutdown windows are all fixed constraints. A collection that ignores them does not happen. We clear that paperwork before we quote a date, because losing a shutdown window is expensive in a way a scrap collection never justifies.

How We Work With Oil, Gas & Energy Clients
We start with access, because in this sector nothing else matters if the crew cannot get on site. Induction, PPE standard, insurance evidence, permit-to-work format, escort requirement and the shutdown or maintenance window all get agreed before a date exists. Scoping then separates OT from IT explicitly: anything from the control network is flagged for physical destruction of storage by default, and anything proposed for remarketing has to be justified rather than assumed. Why should control system hardware be destroyed rather than resold?
Because what is on it is worth more than the chassis. A SCADA workstation or engineering laptop holds process logic, tag databases, network topology and often cached vendor credentials. Sold intact into a second-hand market, that is a live exposure of your plant. We destroy the storage by default and only deviate where you explicitly ask us to.
Can you meet our permit-to-work and induction requirements?
Yes, and we clear them before quoting a date rather than discovering them on the day. Send the induction requirement, PPE standard, insurance and permit format with your equipment list. Losing a shutdown window because a collection crew was turned away at the gate is not a trade worth making.
Do you separate OT from office IT, or treat it all the same?
Explicitly separated at scoping. They carry completely different risk profiles and warrant different destruction methods. A buyer who treats a HMI panel like a reception PC has not understood the problem.
Can you handle collections during a planned shutdown?
Yes, and it is usually the right window. Tell us the fixed dates when you send the list and we schedule the run inside them. Shutdown collections need more upfront planning and less improvisation than anything else we do.
What about large UPS systems and battery banks on site?
We handle them, but flag them on the list. Lead-acid and lithium units need the right containment, handling and vehicle. Arriving without them wastes a slot that in this sector may not come round again for months.
